Abstract

The research aims at describing the consturction of clothes based on postcolonialism point of fiew in Bumi and Langit novel by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. It presents one of the aspects of collonialism on clothes which is one of means of collonializing the collonialized land. The data of the research taken from the novel are in the forms of words,phrases, or sentences containing messages about ideologies,social class, and cultur, showing the ideas of collonialism. Meanwhile,there are two theorieson postcllonialism used to analyze this research, namely one is poposed by Faruk (16:2007) potraying the condition of a colonialized people concerning their lives and living area which is concoured, and controlled by other people coming from different race, religion, culture background and countries. The other one is proposed by Ratna (2010:81) who argues postcolonial theory is able uncover any disguised problems existing inreal life of colonialized peopleThe result of the studay showsthe colonial inserts their ideology through Minke‘s clothes; although she wears western uniform, there is no change in her social status.This also happens with a character named Nyai Ontosoroh who is qualified in in running big businesses but colonial people never consider her equal with them.
