Abstract

This research discusses the symbol of beauty in Indonesia and Japanese Poetry.The aim of the reseaarch is to find out the symbol of beauty in Indonesian Poetry and Japanese poetry, the similarity and differences of those poetry. The researchers apply the theory of Poetry, symbol, beauty, semiotics and comparative literature and conduct a qualitative research method. The finding shows that The symbol of beauty in Indonesian Poetry are reflected in “bunga alang alang” written by taufiq Ismail, “Sawah” written by Sanusi Pane, “angin laut”, “Alam sedang berdandan” and “Desa” written by Kuntowijoyo. The symbol of beuaty in Japanese poetry are reflected in “Haiku” written by Matsuo Basho. Matsuo Basho feels that silence on the hill with the sound of cricets; “Haiku’ poetry written by Matsuo Basho who describes the milky way used as the smbol of beauty; “Haiku” poetry written by Yaso Buson who describes the mustard flower that is yellowing at dusk’ Masaoka Shiki uses “mount sakura or wild sakura’ as the symbol of beauty; and Matsuo Basho uses “Sakura flower as the symbol of beauty. The similarity between Indonesian and Japanese poetry are reflected in Indonesia poetry “Desa” written by Kuntowijoyo who uses the stars that dropp low as the symbol of beauty while “Haiku” poetry written by Matsuo Basho uses the wilky way as the symbol of beauty. The differences between Indonesian and Japanese poetry are reflected in Indonesian poetry viz: “ bunga alang-alang”, “sawah”, “Angin Laut”, “Alam sedang berdandan” and Japanese poetry such as: the symbol of silence on the hill, the mustard flower that is yellowing at dusk”, “mount sakura” and “sakura flower”.
